Suggestive Purechases For
Your New Pup
Kennel for Training. 20x12x12
Kennel once over 6 Months. 24 x16x16 you can go larger if you feel your dog can be trusted with
more room. I like wire kennels so the dogs can see everyone in the room they
are in.
6 Kennel
Blankets. At
first they may mess them so buy at least 6 so you don’t run out in the middle
of the night.
A
Harness.
I prefer a harness instead of a collar so the pup doesn’t hurt its neck when
pulling. After they are good at walking then you can go to a collar.
Seat Belt
Harness. Good
idea to have instead of a bouncing pup on your lap while traveling and it could
save their life in an accident.
2 Bowls. Ceramic are great
in the dish washer and the pups are less likely to knock them over or chew on
them.
Treats. Try to find treats
that are about the size of a pea and don’t crumble easy in your pocket. We kids
like to bake our dogs their treats. We also buy beef bones from our veternarian and many different snacks from our pet store….look
around and pick your dogs favorites.
Brush and Comb. Go with wire
bristle brush that has round wire tips (if it hurts your skin it will hurt the
pups) and also buy a metal comb.
Nail Clippers. Vets
will show you how to clip nails so bring the clippers you have bought for your
pup.
Puppy
Shampoo. We
use an oatmeal shampoo and for small knots you can use a dog fur detangler or conditioner.
Toys. The type you can
stuff (kongs) with treats
work best at keeping a pup occupied for families who work during the day. Don’t
buy toys that look like household items unless you want your pup to mistake
your items as their toys. Our dogs LOVE anything that squeaks or rope toys with
gadgets attached to them.
6’ Leash
or as long as you like. For the first few
months while a pup is teething you might want to buy the dollar leashes at a
dollar store.
Puppy
Food. We
use Science Diet Original small bites. Switching a pup cold turkey will upset
your dog’s tummy and give diarrhea. If you can’t find the food we use then we
will buy something you can get and we will switch for you before the pup goes
home. If you do switch in the future do it slowly over a 4 period and increase
the new food into the old over these 4 days.
I.D Tags. I suggest having
your pup micro chipped as well as having ID tags.
Puppy
Pads. We
start all our pups on these and a big pack is a better buy and you will need
them. Newspaper print can get on your floor or carpet by the dogs paws and some
pups LOVE to chew newspaper. When we run out of pads…which we do we use
newspaper.
Baby
Gates.
These are handy if you work and want to leave your pup in a bigger area instead
of their kennel. BUT use at your own risk because pups can crawl over
them….closing a door is safer when you are out of the house or out of sight of
your pup.
Scissors
or Clippers. You can teach yourself to clip your own
dog’s hair or have them done by a professional. We do our own every 7 weeks.
A Veterinarian. Ask friends and
family about who they go to and who they like. Try to find a 24 hour one and
have the number posted on the fridge in case you have an emergency.
